John E. Duke was born in 1907 and was the radio operator on the St. Roch in the 1930's. He graduated from the School of Radio Electronics at King Edward High School in Vancouver. The course was one year long. He then joined the St. Roch in 1930 and stayed on until 1933. In 1934, he joined the B.C. Provincial Police. He was at William's Lake for 5 years and then transferred to Chilliwack in 1939. He then left the police to obtain his First Class radio certificate in Vancouver. In the late 1940's he taught at King Edward High School and became the Superintendent of the School of Radio Electronics. He taught for 27 years. He retired in White Rock, BC and died sometime before 1992.
