Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Thomas James Bellas was born in 1904 in South Shields, England. He was a seaman in the Merchant Service in the 1920s, and left in 1930 to join the office staff of the Canadian American Shipping Company Limited in Vancouver, B.C. In 1941, Bellas joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve (RCNR). He resigned from the RCNR in 1944 to join the Anglo Canadian Shipping Company as a part of the Merchant Marines. Bellas passed away in 1992.

The collection consists of records relating to Bellas's time in the Merchant Service, the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves, and the Merchant Marines.
