Description

A British War Medal, bestowed to the armed forces that participated in the First World War by the United Kingdom. The front shows King George V's head, with the words "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:" written around him. At the bottom edge of the medal, the recipient's name, "PTE. J. CUNNINGHAM R.A.M.C." is engraved. The backside shows a man riding a horse stepping on an eagle emblem and a skull with cross bones. At the sides of the rider, the numbers "1914" and "1918" are written.
