History of Use
This rabbet plane was designed for cutting rabbets with the long wood grain. A rabbet is a step-shaped recess cut along the edge of a piece of wood. When pushed along the wood, the plane shaves off a strip of wood, making a sharp zipper noise and creating smooth finish. The adjustable blade lets the user choose the thickness of the cut. Typically, this plane would be used on two items to form a fitted pair.
